Our Herd
When we select genetics for our herd, we select popular AI bulls, but we also use our own herd bulls that we raise and buy. We focus more on breeding for maternal cattle that are going to hold up in any condition and make the ranchers profitable. Carcass, bone, growth, and structure are among our top priorities when selecting genetics for our herd.
Herd Sires
Victory was our pick of the 2020 Vermilion Fall Production Sale. In our opinion, he was the best bull to sell that day. Victory is extremely long bodied, big middled, smooth shouldered, with a good square hip. Not only does Victory exhibit great phenotype, but is backed by a strong maternal background ranking top 10% $M. He is a bull we are going to use heavily going forward in our program.

Top-selling bull of the fall 2016 Vermilion Ranch Bull Sale
Ranking among the top 2% of the population as of this writing for Yearling Weight EPD and $Feedlot value index with a top 3% ranking for hot Carcass Weight EPD, a top 4% ranking for Weaning Weight EPD a top 5% ranking for $Beef value index and a top 10% ranking for $Weaned calf value index, this son of the popular Connealy Spur was the $37,500 top-selling bull of the fall 2016 Vermilion Ranch bull sale as a fall yearling.

Reckoning was a member of the extremely popular Mohnen Prince 2959 Sire group, in the 2022 Mohnen Angus Spring Production Sale. He was one of the top selling bulls and had lots of attention from on lookers. Reckoning is a big hipped, deep sided, free moving bull that stands on a large solid foot. His dam is a Young Mohnen Success daughter with a near perfect udder. She is a really deep bodied easy keeping cow. Reckoning is a bull we expect to have a positive impact on our herd for years to come.

Sitz Stellar 726D
Stellar is the lone outside bull we used this year. He is the popular ABS sire known for his exceptional foot quality, and outstanding maternal pedigree. He is thick topped with and deep sided with excellent muscle in the hip. This will be one of the better sire groups we’ve had from top to bottom. Look for lots more Stellar calves in the years to come.

SAV quarterback 7933
Quarterback is a new bull we plugged into our AI program last year. We are super pleased with the results as he did just what we wanted, adding length and growth to his offspring. If you’re looking to add pounds and length these QB sons will be the ones to do it. We used him again last spring and plan on using heavily next year as well.

Musgrave 316 Exclusive
Mohnen Homeraised 3758
When we were unable to get semen on Homemade in time for AI season we decided to use his half brother Homeraised to keep consistency in our calves. Homeraised was similar in phenotype and offered up good calving ease. Most of the calves out of Homeraised will trace back to Sitz Upward on the cow side. This is a good sire group that’s bred for consistency. 6 sons sold in 2021.

Exclusive is a proven 316 son that we decided to use in our AI program. He offers all of the great maternal characteristics of his sire Capitalist 316, as well as some added growth and great carcass numbers. He is the #1 $B son of LD Capitalist 316. On top of this he stands on an excellent foot and is very structurally sound. Exclusive is a bull we will continue to use in the future. His sons will be some of the best to sell!!

Kesslers Commodore
Long bodied, thick topped bull with excellent depth of heel and foot shape . Backed by outstanding maternal potential with a top 15% $Maternal index and backed by a great Summitcrest complete daughter. This will be our first Commodore calves and we really like them. We used this bull heavier this year. Expect many more sons in the future.
